*CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 146:9-10 The LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD! *OPENING HYMN: (#101) Come, Thou Almighty King PRAYER OF ADORATION AND INVOCATION *THE LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. *GLORIA PATRI (#735) THE LAW OF GOD – The Fourth Commandment CONFESSION OF SIN [Adapted from Matthew Henry] We have sinned against you, O Lord, our Maker, our Defender, and our Redeemer. Our natures are corrupt and sinful; prone to fall away from you, sluggish to do good and swift to do evil. Vain thoughts have come upon us and found lodging within us, defiling and disquieting our minds, and keeping out good thoughts. We have burdened ourselves with that care which you have commanded us to cast upon you. We have failed in our duties one to another, and have provoked one another as much to folly and anger as to love and good works. We have been cold in our love to you, weak in our desires toward you, unsteady in our walking with you, and are even at this time poorly prepared to serve you. We beseech you--Forgive all our sins, for Christ’s sake, and be at peace with us in Him Who died to make peace and lives to make intercession for us. Amen. DECLARATION OF PARDON [Ezekiel 36:27] And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. *PREPARATION HYMN: (#141) God, in the Gospel of His Son PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION OLD TESTAMENT READING: Psalm 127:2 page 518 GOSPEL PASSAGE: Matthew 18:7-9 page 823 *SERMON TEXT: Genesis 23:1-20 page 16 SERMON: Buying a Plot, Advancing the Plot PREACHING: Pastor Nathan Snyder *RESPONSE HYMN: (#398) Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies PRAYER OF INTERCESSION OFFERING *DOXOLOGY (#731) and Prayer of Thanksgiving *CONFESSION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism Question 1 Q: What is your only comfort in life and death? A: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him. THE LAW OF GOD – The Third Commandment
CONFESSION OF SIN [Sinners’ Prayer]
Lord God, we are sinners. We violate Your commandments every day - in
our thoughts, in our words, and in our actions; in what we have done, and in
what we have failed to do. We deserve death and hell.
Our God and King, we are sorry for our sins. Please forgive us. We are
trusting in Jesus Your Son. We love His perfect obedience. We love His
perfect sacrifice on the cross. We yield to Him again as our Lord and Savior.
Thank You for Your faithful covenant love. Thank You for saving us. Thank
You for making us Your children. Our God and our King, our lives belong to
You. Be near us and lead us, today and forever. In Jesus Name, Amen.

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.
And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of
flesh.

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of
all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his
Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God,
begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all
things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from
heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was
made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered
and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures,
and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and
he shall come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose
kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is
worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one
holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the
remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life
of the world to come. Amen.

THE LAW OF GOD – The Second Commandment
CONFESSION OF SIN [Based upon Romans 1 and Romans 5]
Our great and everlasting God, Whose eternal power and divine nature have
been seen through the things You have made; we acknowledge that we are
without excuse. For although we have known You, we have not honored
you as God nor given you thanks, but we have become futile in our thinking;
and our senseless minds have been darkened. Claiming to be wise, we have
become fools. We have been filled with every kind of wickedness, evil,
covetousness, and malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and
craftiness, we are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, haughty,
boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious toward parents, foolish, faithless,
heartless, ruthless. Yet we do also heartily acknowledge, that when we
were weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. We most joyfully
confess that You have proven your love for us in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. Forgive our sins, we pray, through Him who was
handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification.
Amen.
DECLARATION OF PARDON [Isaiah 1:18]
Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like
scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall
become like wool.

THE LAW OF GOD – The First Commandment
CONFESSION OF SIN [Adapted from CRC Book of Praise]
O eternal God and merciful Father, we humble ourselves before your great
majesty, against which we have frequently and grievously sinned. We
acknowledge that we deserve nothing less than eternal death, that we are
unclean before you and children of wrath. We continually transgress your
commandments, failing to do what you have commanded, and doing that
which you have expressly forbidden. We acknowledge our waywardness,
and are heartily sorry for all our sins. We are not worthy to be called your
children, nor to lift up our eyes heavenward to you in prayer. Nevertheless,
O Lord God and gracious Father, we know that your mercy toward those
who turn to you is infinite; and so we take courage to call upon you, trusting
in our Mediator Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the
world. Forgive all our sins for Christ’s sake. Cover us with his innocence and
righteousness, for the glory of your name. Deliver our understanding from
all blindness, and our hearts from all willfulness and rebellion, we pray
through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.
