CONFESSION OF SIN [Sinners’ Prayer]
Lord God, we are sinners. We violate Your commandments every day - in our thoughts, in our words, and in our actions; in what we have done, and in what we have failed to do. We deserve death and hell.
Our God and King, we are sorry for our sins. Please forgive us. We are trusting in Jesus Your Son. We love His perfect obedience. We love His perfect sacrifice on the cross. We yield to Him again as our Lord and Savior.
Thank You for Your faithful covenant love. Thank You for saving us. Thank You for making us Your children. Our God and our King, our lives belong to You. Be near us and lead us, today and forever. In Jesus Name, Amen.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. THE LAW OF GOD – Second Commandment – No Idols

CONFESSION OF SIN [Based upon Romans 1 and Romans 5]
Our great and everlasting God, Whose eternal power and divine nature have been seen through the things You have made; we acknowledge that we are without excuse. For although we have known You, we have not honored you as God nor given you thanks, but we have become futile in our thinking; and our senseless minds have been darkened. Claiming to be wise, we have become fools. We have been filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, covetousness, and malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and craftiness, we are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious toward parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Yet we do also heartily acknowledge, that when we were weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. We most joyfully confess that You have proven your love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Forgive our sins, we pray, through Him who was handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification. Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON [Isaiah 1:18] Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

THE LAW OF GOD – First Commandment – No Other Gods

CONFESSION OF SIN [Adapted from CRC Book of Praise]
O eternal God and merciful Father, we humble ourselves before your great majesty, against which we have frequently and grievously sinned. We acknowledge that we deserve nothing less than eternal death, that we are unclean before you and children of wrath. We continually transgress your commandments, failing to do what you have commanded, and doing that which you have expressly forbidden. We acknowledge our waywardness, and are heartily sorry for all our sins. We are not worthy to be called your children, nor to lift up our eyes heavenward to you in prayer. Nevertheless, O Lord God and gracious Father, we know that your mercy toward those who turn to you is infinite; and so we take courage to call upon you, trusting in our Mediator Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Forgive all our sins for Christ’s sake. Cover us with his innocence and righteousness, for the glory of your name. Deliver our understanding from all blindness, and our hearts from all willfulness and rebellion, we pray through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.

A: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their sins. Restore those who are penitent; According to Your promises declared to us in Christ Jesus our Lord. THE LAW OF GOD – The 1st Great Commandment [Mt 22:37]

CONFESSION OF SIN [Adapted from Calvin’s Form of Church Prayers]
Eternal and Almighty Father, we acknowledge and confess before your holy majesty, that we are poor sinners; conceived and born in guilt and in corruption, prone to evil, unable of ourselves to do any good; who, because of our depravity, transgress without end your holy commandments. Therefore we have drawn upon ourselves, by your just sentence, condemnation and death. But, O Lord, with heartfelt sorrow we repent and deplore our offenses! We condemn ourselves and our evil ways, with true penitence beseeching that your grace may relieve our distress. Be pleased then to have compassion upon us, O most gracious God, Father of all mercies, for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. And, in removing our guilt and our pollution, grant us the daily increase of the grace of your Holy Spirit; that, acknowledging from our inmost hearts our own unrighteousness, we may be touched with sorrow that shall work true repentance; and that your Spirit, mortifying all sin within us, may produce the fruits of holiness and righteousness well-pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. THE LAW OF GOD – “Follow Me”

CONFESSION OF SIN
Father God, Your ways are holy, perfect, and altogether righteous. But we have denied You by our thoughts, words, and actions. We have had unclean hearts. We have not loved You as we should. We have sought to justify ourselves in the sight of men, but have not sought Your face. We have not had a right and appropriate fear of You. And our love for You has been weak.
Please be our helper as we come to You this morning. We come as a community of faith that You have called together for such a time as this. We come in the perfect righteousness of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We come with boldness in Him. We come to You now with both fear and love - with that fear of You which is the beginning of wisdom - and with true love for You, because You first loved us. We repent of all known sin, and trust in Your unfailing love for Your children, In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON [Romans 8:12-15]
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

THE LAW OF GOD – The Tenth Commandment

CONFESSION OF SIN [Based upon Deuteronomy 6 and Hebrews 7]
O great and everlasting God, Who dwells in unapproachable light, Who searches and knows the thoughts and intentions of the heart; we confess that we have not loved you with all our heart, nor with all our soul, nor with all our mind, nor with all our strength; nor our neighbors as ourselves. We have loved what we ought not to have loved; we have coveted what is not ours; we have not been content with Your provisions for us. We have complained in our hearts about our family, about our friends, about our health, about our occupations, about Your church, and about our trials. We have sought our security in those things which perish, rather than in You, the Everlasting God. Chasten, cleanse, and forgive us, through Jesus Christ, who is able for all time to save us who approach You through him, since he always lives to make intercession for us. In Jesus Name. Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON [Colossians 2:13-14] And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

*CONFESSION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism Question 1
Q: What is your only comfort in life and death?
A: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.
