THE LAW OF GOD – A New Commandment (John 13:34) – Love as I have...

CONFESSION OF SIN [A Book of Prayers]
Glorious Father, what is love? Your Son demonstrated to us the perfection of divine compassion. He was willing to be the lowest servant in order to work our redemption. He did more than wash the feet of His disciples. He took the place of the worst sinner in His death and won for us the kingdom of life. In this He has also set an example for us. He is our Captain. Shall we run away from the cross that we are to bear? Strengthen us in faith, so that we will never betray Jesus. When we assault Your church, we turn against our Savior. Forgive us and help us to resist the devil. It is our pledge and intention to give up our lives for Your beloved family, but will we really do it? Lord, have mercy upon us. Keep us from arrogant presumption, and glorify Your Name among us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

*CONFESSION OF FAITH [A meditation based on WLC 46-52]
Christ, the Son of God, came from heaven's glory and lived within the womb of a humble maiden. What amazing love! And this was just the beginning of the sufferings of Jesus for us! He kept the law perfectly for our sake. Though he came from heaven above, he did not sit with princes during his days upon this earth, but was willing to associate with the lowly. We marvel at the gift of our savior. By his sacrifice we have been ransomed from death and hell. With grateful hearts, we glory in the cross, and rejoice in the resurrection.

THE LAW OF GOD – Second Commandment – No Idols

CONFESSION OF SIN [Based upon Romans 1 and Romans 5]
Our great and everlasting God, Whose eternal power and divine nature have been seen through the things You have made; we acknowledge that we are without excuse. For although we have known You, we have not honored you as God nor given you thanks, but we have become futile in our thinking; and our senseless minds have been darkened. Claiming to be wise, we have become fools. We have been filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, covetousness, and malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and craftiness, we are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious toward parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Yet we do also heartily acknowledge, that when we were weak, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. We most joyfully confess that You have proven your love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Forgive our sins, we pray, through Him who was handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification. Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON [Isaiah 1:18] Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE LAW OF GOD – First Commandment – No Other Gods

CONFESSION OF SIN [Adapted from CRC Book of Praise]
O eternal God and merciful Father, we humble ourselves before your great majesty, against which we have frequently and grievously sinned. We acknowledge that we deserve nothing less than eternal death, that we are unclean before you and children of wrath. We continually transgress your commandments, failing to do what you have commanded, and doing that which you have expressly forbidden. We acknowledge our waywardness, and are heartily sorry for all our sins. We are not worthy to be called your children, nor to lift up our eyes heavenward to you in prayer. Nevertheless, O Lord God and gracious Father, we know that your mercy toward those who turn to you is infinite; and so we take courage to call upon you, trusting in our Mediator Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Forgive all our sins for Christ’s sake. Cover us with his innocence and righteousness, for the glory of your name. Deliver our understanding from all blindness, and our hearts from all willfulness and rebellion, we pray through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

*CONFESSION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism Question 1
Q: What is your only comfort in life and death?
A: That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

THE LAW OF GOD – The 2nd Great Commandment [Mt 22:39]

CONFESSION OF SIN [Based upon The Book of Common Worship, 2nd order]
Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their sins. Restore those who are penitent; According to Your promises declared to us in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for His sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life; To the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

*CONFESSION OF FAITH The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
